I have been living in the AR world for the last couple of years, but I have been wanting and looking for a HK94. I have decided that now is the time to get one. The problem is that I am not very educated on what is actually available and what is worth the price. I am not opposed to paying what I consider a "reasonable" amount for a good clone. At this time, I am not ready to pony up for the real deal.

I have looked at the Dakota Tactical models for sale at HK parts.net and they look very nice. With that said... I am really looking for a rifle and not a pistol. I don't want to mess with an SBR right now. I just want something that is reliable.

I have been looking at the ATI full size MKE AT 94P and the reviews have been favorable. My question is - this is listed as a full size pistol, but I have read where people have converted them to rifles just by adding a forearm and a stock. Is this really legal to do? I would be fine with adding a forearms and collapsible stock and remaining legal if that is possible. Also, if I ever wanted to SBR it, I could have the barrel shortened/changed at that time.

Any help with the best path to take would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I have a CA94FS and have had good luck with it so far. My wife wanted something to use in three gun matches and it fit the bill. I heard that TD was shutting down shop to move, not sure when he will re-open. Chopsticks over at HK forums makes great guns from all the reviews I have read. His site is still under constuction, but it does have contact infofor him. http://www.dakotatactical.com/ He also answers emails and posts there quickly.

I stand corrected, no contact info on his webpage. Sorry.

Too bad they don't import the "sport" version.

I have the MKE AT 94P and have done just as you were wondering. It IS legal to throw a stock and forearm and make it a rifle. However, you also need to change out some parts with US made parts to make it 922(r) compliant. The stock and forearm count as two, so you need to change out a few other parts. The easiest are the trigger, hammer, sear and cocking handle.

ETA:
Dakota Tactical clones are AWESOME! If you have the dough and want to spend it, this is the way to go. IIRC, he only sells them with the short barrels, so you'd have to leave it as a pistol or SBR it.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, my initial post is not very clear. I did not mean to just add the stock and forearm, I meant adding the appropriate number of US parts to satisfy 922r. It just appears there is a lot of confusion on the net regarding this and I am not sure why.  I just started a new thread regarding this.
