Looking at a Howa 1500 w/ Hogue stock in 308 for a new hunting rifle. I know some of the guys over in Precision Rifle shoot them. I'm just looking for some feedback.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard.  Howa makes the Vanguard.

In a nutshell, the Howa is one of the best guns out there.  It has good machining.  Fit and finish is very good.  Pretty solid push feed action.
Bell & Carlson makes excellent aftermarket stocks.
The trigger can be adjusted by the owner until your Timney trigger arrives.

And it shoots.

In todays market, I pick one over any comparable Remchester.......  Wait a minute, I DID pick one over a Remchester.

You can't go wrong with a Howa 1500.

This is my opinion.  Your opinion may vary.

I have a Howa 1500 in .270.  It is a consistent 1MOA or better shooter with factory ammo and no rifle mods.  I love it and will NEVER get rid of it.

Cool. I like the Ranchland Compact in 308 with the green hogue stock. It just looks cool and I like the idea of a full length of pull in a shorter length standard contour barrel. Now all I have to do is choose a scope........

There's a german manufacturer that's making Chassis Systems for the Howa action that are basically a clone of an Accuracy International Chassis System.  Currently they use the AICS skins and Mags.

At the colorado school of trades we use howa actions for the custom rifle that we build for the first half of school. They are very nice actions but the locking surfaces take a bit of lapping to true up.

I have a 1500 model with wood stock in 30/06. It is just one of those rifles you would NEVER sell because MAN does it shoot well !!

It really likes the cheap 150 grn. Remington corlocks " not sure about the spelling " that I pick up at the ol' walmart !!

I had that same rifle in .30-06 with a synthetic stock.  I still regret selling it.

Howa also made a damn good AR180 under license from ArmaLite.

i scored on a 1500 in .223 had trigger job and bolt lapped. was won @ a hipower match. the original owner sold it because it's a 1/12 not a 1/9. i paid basic 1500 cost for it. vey happy and it dies shoot very well, even with the Nikki Sterling scope it came with. one day i will invest in some better glass.
here it is wearing a Halo QD. might cut the bbl down a tad, not sure @ this time.

I have one in .30 -06.  IMO, they are one of the best kept secrets in rifles in this country.  They're well made and very accurate, and inexpensive.  They're drilled for Remington 700 mounts.  The Hogue stock feels a little funny at first, but the rifle is a pleasure to shoot.  Just make sure that you mount the scope as far forward as possible.  The recoil pad compresses when the rifle is fired, so you need some extra distance to prevent Weatherby Smile.

I just sold my heavy-bbl model in .308 on another message board because my range doesn't have the room for me to really run it, and I wanted an AR carbine instead.

That said, if I ever get access to a longer range, I will pick up another Howa; outstanding rifles and you absolutely can't beat the price.

Look up septic-tank13's Howa test thread over in Precision Rifles.
ETA:  Here it is.

My father has one in 223. He won the team shoot last weekend with a under 3/8 inch 5 shot groop using black hills 45gr match ammo. His rifle tends to like the light bullets.
