I released the rifle portion of my 2007 22LR Shootout and it includes the HTG Universals guts flying downrange during testing. LINK Look at the last video under the rifle portion of the review under "multi-caliber rated silencers" at the bottom. You must have a free membership to the website to view the videos. |
I hope not too. The fact that a can designed primarily for 22 long rifle couldn't handle the muzzle blast of a short barreled 5.56 doesn't really surprise me though. I'm really looking forward to to the day my stamp shows up so I can pick up my Ares III. |

If they don't recommend a 14.5 what is the point? How "universal" is it if it won't take the pressure of a fairly "universal" 14.5" barrel? A .25" blast baffle on a 5.56 can, seems very small from a simple standpoint of baffle strike promotion. With a 1" tube diameter... pressure retention in the blast chamber is probably extreme for a very short period of time. I'll bet the can welded would have held though. The threads are a weak point. The 60degree thread form will act as a inclined plane, to bulge the tubing under extreme pressure... |
With a .25" blast baffle that would be no surprise. The 5.56 cans I've made have all had bores 5/16" minimum ID. The bullet seems barely stable moving through the can under ideal conditions, so pushing luck with a small bore like that is probably not prudent. |
