Get the RCBS that does not require different shell holders.

Where does the primer tray go?  Get one with a tray...  Adjusting seating depth is not a concern, IMHO.  They should go all the way in and sit just below flush.

The RCBS universal handheld priming tool is nice.

Agreed

I use a RCBS ram priming unit on a single stage if I feel the need for precise primer seating depth (like with my OCD hunting loads). It costs about $100 less than the handheld unit in the original post.

Does not have one, its a bench rest priming tool only one at a time.

I use a handheld tool for priming and I do like that method, but damn.  One primer at a time? Benchrest guys are hard _ core!  Personally, I no longer scrape the soot out of primer pockets, but I still poke the tumbler media out of flash holes even tho some guys swear you cant tell from results downrange.

Never heard of that one, I have a couple of RCBS's.

Is the RCBS better than the Hornady? I got the Hornady only because it came with press. I have not mastered it yet. Primers keep falling into the mechanism and lock the thing up. I seem to be doing it per the instructions.

Basically, if anyone knows if the RCBS has a similar learning curve, let me know. Else, I will keep an eye out on a deal for the RCBS.

OP, buy it and let us know.

Load each primer by hand with tweezers? No thanks.

I'd rather have the Sinclair one if I'm going to do that.

I just upgraded to the RCBS universal per dryflash's constant recommendations. In in heaven, so much better than the Lee setup I use to use.

Never used the Hornady, so no help here.

Start a new thread and ask users of the Hornady for help.

Thanks all for your input. I've been using my lyman auto feed that came with my press, it works ok but I'm glued to the press. Thought it would be nice to sit in front of the TV or in the yard and prime! I just ordered the RCBS universal! ??

You'll be happy you did. So easy to sit down with a few boxes of primers and a gallon bag of brass and just methodically get the job done without being tied to the bench.

I have a Lee that works OK, but I hate having to buy their proprietary shell holders each time I add another cartridge to my reloading hobby.

For precision the hand held options
All use Lee Auto prime...
21st Century
Sinclair
K&M

Hand Held with tray
RCBS Universal and Hand Priming Tool the Hand Priming Tool uses only RCBS Shell Holders
Lee Auto Prime XL and Ergo Prime
Lyman EZ Prime
Hornady Hand Priming Tool Uses RCBS and Hornady Press Shell Holders

The Lyman EZ uses any standard press shell holder.

The best? I would go with the RCBS.

The Hornady that came with my press came with a couple trays. Thought I read that one was for the standard shell holders (Lee in my case) and the other with Hornady ones. In any case, one of the trays works fine with the Lee shell holders but the nechanism isnt quite right. Primers sometimes fall under the shell holder.

Mine does that too, it's a shame because it would be just about perfect if it didn't jam so much.
