Dad went into the Army in the spring of 1941. Lucked out and didn't see active combat but was in for the duration. Was stationed in California and Alaska much of the time. He brought little back with him, but there were three cartridges that he kept as souvenirs. Not sure why. Two were headstamped "41". One is your standard .50 cal. Another is a 30-06 and the third I can't figure out. It is just a tad shorter than a 30-06. I can't make out anything on the head stamp. The first pic below compares the mystery cartridge to what I believe is a 30-06 based on the dimensions. The plan is to make a shadow box with his uniform, medals and these. Not sure if I am going to polish them up or not though. A little 0000 steel wool will likely make them shine like crazy, but this way adds character as well. Thanks,    |

The 7.7 SR Japanese round was a direct copy of the .303. It was made for their License copies of the Lewis gun mounted on Aircraft IIRC. |

There was three versions of 7.7 ammo Rimless for Type 99 rifle & MG's Semi -rimmed for MG's Rimmed for MGs ......( Lewis type clones ) being identical to .303 brit they even used captured British ammo stocks. |
