| i'm wanting a m1a really bad... which one would you get if you didn't have one? i'm kinda thinking basic, but at the same time i like the walnut scout squad... and i'd like a 30 round mag... |

If I were buying new I would get one assembled on an LRB Arms receiver or Smith Enterprises receiver once they come out. If I were buying used I'd buy an old Springfield Armory, Inc. that has a lot of USGI parts.
What is the purpose of the rifle? An 18.5" rifle will get you out pretty far and is a little more maneuverable. What stock it comes with doesn't matter because you can always buy a $50-$100 USGI wood or fiberglass stock, $600 Sage stock, or anything in between and swap it out. If you want to mount an optic be aware that some rings may not fit the forward scope mount well and some scope mounts may not fit the receiver well. Don't even bother with a 30 round mag unless you want to have problems feeding. The Check Mate Industries 25 round mags may be nearly as reliable or as reliable as a 20 round mag, but they are longer and heavier. Dustin |

I have the Scout. I had the Bush and Full size M1A. I like the Scout the best, great to shoot with a 2.5X long eye relief scope. You can still mount a standard scope with the receiver mounting attachment. It balances very well for me. Try the 30 round mags if you want. I actually prefer the 10 round mags. Low profile when shooting prone and lower weight. 20's are fine also.
I put mine in a fiberglass USGI stock and painted it forest green covered with flat clear coat. Tough finish. |
