What about one of those pivioting wood/horn/bone handles that covers the blade (leaving the steel of the handle sticking up) then pivots and then the metal "handle" rests in the other side of the wood exposing the blade.

Why not buy a knife all ready made and stop the worrying?

It's satisfying to make something with your own hands that is functional.

The antler thing would be great except the blade is 6 1/2 " long...(pic is at an angle)...that would be a really big folder there...and a really big antler tip or horn....I am a knife maker for a living. I am where guys like you go to buy their 'already made' knives....lol

You say beaded sheath and I think Dan Winkler.    I'd do something like elk antler scales with brass tacks and sinew wrapping.

How about building up the tang with a leather lace wrap then a leather sleeve of some firmer leather, laced up the side?

I had a thought about adding copper in there somewhere. Dan does stuff like that too as well as several others and every once in a while I feel the need to do something different than normal customer stuff. I have done patch and belt knives in the old way for SASS and black powder once in a while and I like that.

No, I am referring to the actual indigenous sheaths that would have adorned a belt 400 years ago maybe...
