I just recently bought a Remington 799 in 7.62 X 39 caliber. I finally got to shoot it this past weekend. The problem I had is the bolt is not closing after a couple shots !!! The first shot and all is fine. Second shot and bolt is harder to close. By the forth shot I can hardly force the bolt closed. Pushing the bolt forward to feed a round into the chamber is fine. It is when I try turn the bolt down to lock it that I have a problem. After about five minutes without firing a round everything works fine for the first shot......then the trouble starts all over again. What's going on ??? TIA

Sounds like it doesn't like being hot.

How does the fired round look?

The only thing I can think of is a real close tolerance match between your chamber and ammo.
As the gun gets hot, things move around just enough to cause problems.

What kind of ammo was it?

I was using Brown Bear FMJ. There was no problem extracting the spent shell casing. Only closing the bolt when it was warm/hot. I didn't think 3 fired rounds would cause this kind of problem.

Why don't you try something that is brass cased for shits and giggles and then go from there.

Make sure your bolt lugs are lightly greased too.  I'd hate see you gall the metal on a new rifle.
