So I realized today that I don't have any water on my plate carrier.  I like keeping it slim, so I'm leaning towards a 1 or maybe 2 liter bladder on the back.  Any recommendations on which company makes good bladders/covers/whatever other paraphernalia this entails?  I've used Camelbak before and they seem to always have a plastic taste to them, never used any other brand (Except the $5 wal-mart off-brand that will never be spoken of again).

That plastic taste is part of the charm.

You could try Source 2WPXL or something like that with the PIG Hydration carrier.  They were made for eachother

yep i was going to suggest the Source, they make one that is sized for a plate carrier.

this is a 3L one, they have a 2L but i dont see a carrier for it.

Nice, I'll check out Source - never even heard of them before.

That one in the pic is a bit large, I'm a skinny dude and judging my the MOLLE rows it might actually be wider than my rear plate O_O

I just checked and it's actually seven (Diamondback FAPC), so that bladder would be fine after all.  Like so many things, it looks bigger on the internet.

It is supposed to be wide so it can be shorter for the plate carrier.

I use the TYR carrier with a 1.5L Camelbak, but I will be getting a 1.5L Source pretty soon.

If you do go with a camelbak, the armorbak works well.

Liking the look of the Tyr one, does that take any special bladder, or just a regular 1.5-liter?

So the general consensus is Source > Camelbak, what about "Platypus"?  I hear good things about them and I know I can buy them locally.

The TYR should take any 50oz bladder.

I like Platy bladders for camping and hiking, the blue tube is not terribly tactical

I use Source bladders with a quick detach QMT at the base of the bladder .

If youre not down with the BLOOTOOB

Then get a length of tubular nylon to sheath over the tube.  most REI's will have a tan or khaki shade available.

or if you are so inclined, take a length of camoprint du jour , fold it over and stitch down, creating a maxi-tacti-fashioneesta tube cover

I actually prefer my Camelbak, and have use the suggested Armorbak on two different deployments.

Oh, I know, hence the .  To be honest I have never had any problems with any of the 3 companies mentioned.  Personal pref I guess as to the delivery and hose attachment system.

ive been using platy stuff for 8-10 years now. Mostly abuse the things. the newer ones i cant vouch for. Though i do have a .5  i use when jogging, that im trying to break, bust etc.

The pro's of them are their weight and price. They are also not as "soft" as other bladders. Again, i have older ones  and only recentky ( 3 years ago)started to use camelbaks etc.   I like the Cbak mouth peices, bite valves.  I love the pltypus weight, abilty to roll up ( i carry a spare 2l in my kit normally, hey im a crazy survivalist nut job ya know ...two is one..) .

Ive also been using the hydratsorm 3 l bladders. The bite valves suck. the bladders do ok. They get funky faster than the platys and cbaks. However i got mine at CTD 3+ years ago  in a 3 pack for 9$ so they get used.

the Armorbak is what im using in Astan, its nice because i can take it off if im driving or leave it on for dismount ops. i also dont like exposed tube like other makers. they get cut up a little faster when exposed.
