My friend brought these by my house. He has had them 30+ yrs.
Anybody have any idea what model they are or what Gen tube is in them.
I can not get them to power up to look in the tube.
And are they worth fixing.
And can he make them a gen2 at minimum?
Thanks

They look like pvs-5's, but I could be wrong.

This particular model is an Isreali AN/PAS-5, not a PVS-5 they are Gen 0 and require infrared light sources to really see with them.

Not PVS 5's.....but they do look like Israeli AN/PAS 5's.  They were made in the 70's, so Gen-0 to Gen-1 at the best.

Its a PAS-5, Gen 0. Also goes by the name SU-49 made in the very late 60's and into the 70's by ITT (IIRC). From the looks of yours its israeli surplus, 70's vintage. You do need a decent IR light source for these to do much of anything BTW, and even then don't expect alot.

The manual lists it as a BA-1312/U, 3 volt battery FSN 6135-269-5843.

This place has it: 1.35vx2

Another place for LR50 batties.

And no I really doubt you could upgrade them to gen2, just look around for a used set of PVS-5's if thats your bag, much better goggles.

Thanks for the info guys I was just wondering what they were and if they could be upgraded.
He has Gen 3 as do I so no big deal just figured if they could be fixed for cheap or upgraded he might give it a try.
As far as these go I cant get them to come on. Tried running wires to it and a surefire Batt and got nothing. He had 3 of the small 50 Batt's but they did nothing either.

It very easily could be the wiring, or other dead components, did they make any whining sound at all?

I didn't hear any sound at all I'll have him bring them back and mess with them a little more.
