Thinking about either buying one of Century's .308 K98s or buying an M95 from Aim.  I'm assuming that the M95s will probably be around for a while due to the fact that ammo is getting harder to come buy but supposedly the converted K98s are more rare.  Anyone picked up either of these lately?  I have run into the the k98s at gun shows and online gunbroker sites and the generally look kind of rough.

The converted K98's are rough.  Unless you have to have the proof marks you would be better off to make your own up.

I've heard the same thing, that the 308s are very rough.  If you got one, it would be for the markings only.

The m95 is a bear.  That's both good and bad.

It looks to me that you're looking for a shooter.  If so, get a 8mm mauser like a 24/47, M48, or a RC K98.

If ammo price is the main concern, x54r is the cheap ticket these days.  You won't be shooting the wings off flies, but the fireball should singe them at least.

Got a Finn M39?  If not you need one.

I kind of figured that the converted 98s were probably pretty rough.   The ones I've seen looked pretty ugly and especially coming from Century, its a crap shoot.  I'm sitting pretty good on Mausers but the Finn m39 is a good idea.  I've seen a few at gun shows and they are a pretty nice looking gun.  I know Empire arms has some but I've never done business with them.  Any other recommendations for vendors?

They even have some that have 1894-1898 recievers = antique = no FFL needed.  They're just as good as any other.
