I am look at 2 uppers to choose from and have limited experience with SBRs. I do like the idea of the 10inch KMR being you can extend your reach further out. Is there that much of a difference other than price on choosing one over the other? ie, free float vs FSB. Thanks guys

| Free floats, such as the KMR are said to increase accuracy, as they are a "floating" platform and no torque is applied to the barrel when you grip it. Whether this is true or not on a milspec upper is up for debate... In a SBR, the accuracy difference will be very negligible and even in a full length rifle, I'm not sure sure I completely buy into it. These days most people do it for aesthetic reasons and much increased modularity. If you get the one with the FSB and decide you want a rail, you can always send it off to ADCO to have the FSB shaved and the KMR rail added, though this will cost you more in the long run. My personal opinion would be if you're wanting a rail, go ahead and just get the BCM, but if you're going to go FSB, basic SBR upper, go with a cheaper option, like the Palmetto 10.5 with Cold Hammer Forged Barrel. When on sale, they can be had for less than $300 shipped (NO BCG or CH). Then from there, if you decide you want a rail, again you can send it off to ADCO and they'll do whatever you want to it. This route will most likely still be cheaper than the linked BCM complete KMR upper AND have a CHF barrel. JMHO. |

free float with no Front sight post for sure. i personally prefer a quad rail, but thats just me Since BCM hasn't stocked their 10" quad rails w/11.5's in over two years now (i guess they wanna force you to buy thier KMR which i do not like) I bought the standard 11.5" and cut the FSB/installed a Centurion Arms 10" C4. |

I think it depends how you plan to go with the build.
If a low variable scope is in your future then the keymod would probably be the natural choice. (although i run a fixed fsb with my scoped rifles no problem at all) If it's a red dot then i prefer a fixed fsb. I had a chance to run a friends bcm with keymod. Great upper but it got relatively warm for such a cool day. Hot day really running it id say your gona want gloves with that forend. (if burning through ammo isn't your style then nothing to worry about) |
