So I was installing a set of Skinner sights on a circa 2008 Marlin 336. As I'm gently tapping the front sight off with a Delrin punch and a brass hammer, the whole front sight base comes off. The screw (one) holding it to the barrel broke and, no, I wasn't whanging on it. I think I've got all or most of the old screw out. Anyone know the thread pitch? Do I just need to clean it out with a tap? Gunsmith (pro) time? Thanks.

pretty sure that's a 6-48 thread pitch, if you need to run a tap into the hole make sure it's a bottoming type tap. Marlin replacement screws are available at brownells, midway.

Find a competent Smith with the correct tooling and ability to remove the screw remnant.
Left hand drill bits are your friend.

Thanks for the replies. I'm gonna take it to a smith and see if he can drill and tap a two screw ramp.
