1873 Springfield Trapdoor. It looks like the carbine model with the shortened forend. There is a flip up rear sight like on the officers model. But this rear sight looks diffrent, with a slider marked up to 27 with a peep hole and a regular sight. There is no checkering on any of the parts or stock.

On the barrel band there is a U
On the barrel there is: V P P written downward
and towards the middle there is an: R
On the trapdoor it is labeled: US Model 1873
The Serial number is: 1274X
The sideplate is marked with the traditional US SPRINGFIELD with the eagle.
The butt plate is marked on top with:US and has the trapdoor with the 3 rods inside.
The stock is lighter color than the other ones I seen.

I bought it off my wife's friend, but have no idea what it is.

I have a book on the trapdoor at work so I might be able to help if you still need it next week.

I can tell you that the serial number dates it as 1874.

You gonna keep it or sell it?

Does the stock have an inspector's cartouche?  Typically, the cartouche is an individuals initials stamped into the stock.  Imagine a right handed shooter is standing up, ready to fire the rifle.  The cartouche should be about where the thumb rides over the stock.  Another cartouche is a capital P inside a circle, indicating proof firing.  This one is found on the pistol grip, about where your pinky would rest.

There is no cartouche or any other markings on the stock.

I looked at trapdoor sight I couldn't find any info. All I know is it is a carbine with I guess an aftermarket flip up rear sight, since it don't look the same as the others posted there on the officer models.
