Thinking of a new 5.56.

My LGS has the Beretta ARX 100 and I can pick it up for 1100.

Or...Arsenal AK???? for 1066 bucks

My choice would be the SLR-106, they have tempted me in the past.  I like them.

Of your choices, I'd skip the AK in 556 and get the Beretta. I owned an SLR106FR when they were first released. Commie rifle works best in commie calibers. If I were getting a new 556 platform it would be an MCX FWIW.

Easy decision... ARX-100.

Old tech vs new. ARX, not even a question.

Tough decision.  Seriously.   I've never shot either but like both.  Well I've shot AK's before.  I've fondled an ARX.   I like them both so far.  If Berette makes them carbines like they do the 92/M9, it will be as reliable as an AK.......

I'd go slr106 personally

I own both and would grab the Beretta.

BTW, there are extended charging handles out for them. Beretta has rails available for the bottom of the handguard if you want to put a vertical grip on it.  They also have short 5.56 barrels available for SBR'd guns.  I believe shooting sight has aftermarket triggers that are being beta tested right now.

People joke about the looks of the front end but it feels better in the hands than it looks. The quick barrel removal is very handy for cleaning if not for swapping barrels. Some complain about the fixed A2 grip. I filed off the bump and it feels better.

Either gun will treat you well but my preference on those two is the Beretta.

I'd go with the ARX, especially for $1100.

I fondled the .22 version of it yesterday and it's just a handy carbine.  I've yet to shoot one though.

Let's see: bargain modern 21st Century design SCAR like firearm vs expensive 1940s technology based AK.... Hmmmm....

Much as I like AKs, I have 2 I assembled, and a Krink machine gun for their mechanical reliability, I like the modern guns better for utility.

I have 2 SCARs, lotsa ARs, etc.

The AKs need upgraded to use modern optics, aren't near as accurate. But they use cheap 5.45 or 7.62x39 ammo. You don't have that option with the 106.

I had a 107FR, but sold it.  Great gun but I thinned the herd and it drew the short straw.

I just got done handling an ARX and must say, IMO, that is one abortion of a firearm.  Between the plastic feel, shitty sights, and atrocious charging handle (knocked some skin off my knuckle), I have to vote for any-damn-thing BUT the ARX.

Best of luck.

Out of the OP's 2 choices, I'd go with the Beretta.

I have both, can't go terribly wrong with either.

ARX uses commonly available AR mags, the SLR uses expensive as hell Bulgarian mags that Arsenal USA has a stranglehold on.  Optics mount easier on the ARX.  Both have folding stocks but the SLR stock blocks the side mounted optics rail.  The ARX trigger is pretty heavy, the Arsenal trigger is not as heavy but still leaves a lot to be desired.  More aftermarket parts for the SLR.  Beretta's commitment to the ARX barrel change kits remains to be seen outside of the 10.5" SBR one.

At the same price, I'd probably go with the ARX.  It's a lot newer and Beretta will at least take care of warranty issues domestically.

My SLR was $800 when I bought it, so things have changed a lot since then.  I'm not quite sure I believe Arsenal AKs are "worth" the prices they command these days, yet I still buy them.

Did you move on one Army EOD?  We gotta live vicariously through you.  I'm thinking about getting an AK because my son likes them.

The Beretta.
BTW, is it new or used? $1100 is dirt cheap, I just picked mine up new for $1500 and that was the cheapest new one I could find.
