So I did something really stupid and ended up with my Prodigy locked up tight. It wasn't the pure volume of rounds fired, but the time period breaks between each session. I'd shoot 30 - 50 rounds through it and not open it up and clean it since it was only a few rounds. Repeat that a few times and the round count does add up. Still, the round count was not that high so I suspect the problem is condensation and leaving it together.
I let it soak in a jar of Liquid Wrench penetrating oil for about a week. Then I let it soak in a jar of Mobil 1 15W-40 for about a week. In both instances the liquids were about 2" deep with the nose end of the suppressor (where the threads are that holds it together) in the liquid. I tried heating it a time or two with a hair dyer (I went easy with this and could probably have done it longer/more). After all those things I tried opening it by holding the body in my hand and using a pair of pliers to turn the end cap (with a leather belt between the end cap and the pliers). What else should I try? I am trying to avoid anything that would permanently damage the suppressor. I have seen other people mention using a vice to hold the tube while you turn the end cap, but it seems to me that the pressure required to hold the thing in place will also be enough pressure to deform the tube. Thanks! |

Do NOT put the tube in a vice! It is the serial numbered part!!!
If you must, stick the rear end cap of the suppressor in the vice. Then grab the tube (might need a strap wrench) and try to twist off. Pad the vice jaws!! I have not used Liquid Wrench but have excellent results with Kroil. If you really can't get it to budge call AAC and I am sure they will help you out. Or, I'll be around next week. Bring the sucker to me and I'll get her opened up for ya. Best of luck, bud. Mark |

Mark, as always you are full of good info and a willingness to help. If I haven't gotten this thing unstuck by the time you get my pending form 4 back I will bring it with me when I come to pick up my new toy. This Tuesday will be 15 weeks since they cashed my check so hopefully they are getting close.
combat45acp, thank you for that link. I have been wanting to pick up a can of Kroil but I was shopping for a good deal. I have two 13oz cans on the way now! Thanks! |
