So I'm in the market for a solid pack that I can use to carry my laptop, notebook, pencils, etc. to work every day, with an extra compartment to pack a basic emergency kit in, such that I have it on my person. I currently have this one from Maxpedition:
http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/CONDOR-II-BACKPACK-12p106.htm It's perfect for the laptop+notebooks+sundries, but no room for the extra kit. I'm thinking the extra gear would be ~100 cubic inches or so. Suggestions? |

The least expensive thing to do would be to pick up a molle pouch and attach it to your Condor. You can get whatever size pouch you need now, and still expand in the future with additional pouches if required, plus since you already have the laptop+notebooks+sundries loaded in the Condor, you won't have to figure out whether or not everything will fit, or how to pack it, etc etc.
Some suggestions: FR-1, Vertical GP Pouch, Horizontal GP Pouch, 6x9 Pouch, or the 4.5 x 6 Pouch. That last one is only 81 cubic inches, so it may be a little small, but the rest are well over 100 cubic inches. And of course there are other manufactures, I only threw those in there since your backpack is Maxpedition. If you want to lose the 'military' look of Molle, I'd take a look at Outdoor Products Power Laptop Pack 2.0. That backpack is about 2500 cubic inches, while your current one is about 2000 cubic inches, so the Power Laptop Pack should have enough room for all the stuff you currently have and enough room to hold your emergency kit plus a few other goodies. The organization of this pack is first-rate, and it's an awesome backpack for travelling through airports, with a 'hidden' compartment at the small of your back (can't be opened by someone else while you're wearing it) and a dedicated passport/ticket pouch that retracts back into it's compartment. The sunglass compartment and stash panel round out a superb design. ~Bill |
