I need a punch/doohickie to make the front sling swivel rivet mushroom.  I haven't had any luck finding anything to install the darn thing.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are looking for a RIVETSET or RIVET SET.

You could also just re-invent the damn thing with a trip to a high-quality outfitter store, where they may have spare sling/rigging/backpack parts and accoutrements.

NAM, viagra took care of my missing tool and made me into a sexual T-Rex.  I've tried a punch but it doesn't make a purty mushroom.  I contacted Bushy and was told that they fabricate their own special punch but do not offer it for sale.

DA, I'll see if I can find a Rivetset.  I'm not interested in reinventing the damn thing, I kinda like the current setup.  Thanks.  Are there any Tool & Die guys here that could help out in the search?

Can you send a photo of what you are actually trying to do? Maybe I can be of assistance if I cam see it for myself.

Also, I may be able to rig-up a tool for ya.

DA,  I'm trying to get the rivet that holds the front sling swivel onto the sight to mushroom, thus holding the sling swivel in place, like the factory installed ones do.  If you look at one that was installed at the factory, it's a purty lil' mushroom, you'll see what I'm talking about.

I just checked Harborfreight.com. They sell all types of punches except the one you need. Looks like pop rivets have just abut replaced rivet that require one end to be peaned over.

A rivet set is just a punch with a concave face. You could make one by taking a steel shaft of the proper size, heating it to red hot, and placing the heated end over a small steel bearing of the size you want the rivet head to be, and whacking it with a hammer until the face has a divot in it. Then heat treat the new punch. Now you have a rivet set.

My Oly has a roll pin through the sling swivel/base. Has been working fine, may be worth a try till you can get a rivet in place.
