I'm currently looking at purchasing my first M1A rifle. There are three that catch my eye. SOCOM II, SOCOM 16, and M1A scout. I can't seem to make up my mind, but I am leaning a little towards the SOCOM II, though I heard it's not quite as mobile/handy as the SOCOM 16, I do like the rail system on the SOCOM II. And I just like the way the Scout looks in walnut. I would like some input or I don't know much about M1A's. And one more question does anyone know why Springfield has taken their M1'a down form their site. Did they discontinue, if so where would be my best bet of purchasing one? |

Thanks for the input. I noticed I had some typos. Yes, now it is a dead lock between the SOCOM 16 and the Scout in Walnut. Though I am leaning more towards the Scout. Does anyone know where I can get an M1 Garand. I notice that Springfield hasn't got it up anymore on their site? |

Look at odcmp.com and if anything i was looking into purchasing a scsom 16. Most people who do not like the socom's say they are not accurate, the truth is it's the shooter fault. I mean of course its not goin to be as accurate as the scout, one has a longer barrel and different sights. But My friend over at collector's rifle and ammo in New York, has hit targets in reasonable groups up to 800 yards, which i believe is incredible for a socom. Hope this helps! Thanks- |

I haven't heard that any. I know that it has a shorter barrel, I had read a review on the SOCOM II and the guy had referenced the SOCOM 16 quite often in it. Saying that the inaccuracy of the rifle was due to what the shooter can do, not the rifle and ammo. So, I'll go with that they are both accurate. The main reason for why the SOCOM II was of interst to me at first was that it just looked mean. But at 10.5 pds empty I don't know. Seems heavy. And the SOCOM 16 as I've heard is considered better than the SOCOM II at least among LEO's. Though I like the Scout model in walnut a lot. Fact is I'll probably pick up whichever one I think would be a good beginner M14 rifle. I do want one that offers some compactness. I don't want a huge 20 inch barrel. I'll use it for hunting and sport shooting. We've got a bad Hog problem on out land and looking to clear some out this year with a new (insert type of M1A here) rifle. But yeah, I think I'll just do a ton of research until I've overturned every rock I can find. But thanks for the input! |
| Yeah I did a lot of research on all three rifles. I found all the reviews to be good of all three rifles. I think I'll go get a feel of them if I can see which one appeals more to me. I've regained some interst in the SOCOM II. It'll be that or a scout. I am going to buy both rifles, just having a hard time deciding which one first, though I've read everything from here and it seems that the scout may very well be my choice. I don't mind the heavyness, but I'm concerned about the balance issue. I've got a gun shop down the road that has a SOCOM II and a scout. I'll check them both. |
