Trying to setup a lee 1000. I can get it to run three bullets and then a primer will end up side ways . It seam like the rod doesn't go all the way down to let the primmer ride up on the top of the rod .Sorry its the best way I can explain my problem any help would be great thanks

| Just got home a few hours ago with new Lee 1000.Setting it up to run 9mm dedicated. I run an old Loadmaster dedicated to 45acp.and hand prime brass instead of fumbling with primer system. Anticipate doing the same with Pro 1000. At minimum I suggest hand priming enough rounds to be comfortable with indexing before screwing with a primer system that at best is aggravating. |

You probably have a timing issue or some dirt/powder in the primer index. Try using a shop vac to suck it out and if that doesn't work use the adjustment screw below the carrier to tweak the timing. Also make sure you are using a full primer tray, as the number of primers down so does the reliability. IM me of you are still having problems, I can talk you through it on the phone or skype. |

1. Make sure primer tray is full
2. Make sure primer ramp is clean 3. Make sure the primer ram centers the hole on the shell plate. There is a small screw down below the shell plate that handles the timing. Use this screw to center the primer ram. 4. You will notice one of the three black "legs" or "risers" is ribbed. You will also notice a little bar that rubs on the ribs. This is to vibrate the primers in the ramp and keep them flowing smoothly. Make sure this bar rubs the ribs. You can add a rubber band to give it more tension. jonblack |

It seam like the rod doesn't go all the way down to let the primmer ride up on the top of the rod . There is a spring that pushes the primer ram (rod) back down. Take some compressed air and blow that out. You might have powder in there that prohibits the rod from moving freely. jonblack |
| thanks all . I tryed all of the above and it running better but still not right about every fourth or so primer does'nt seat all the way . Iam trying to keep my movements smooth through the whole stroke and getting a lot of loss powder also i have power pistel and loading a 6.2 gr. I can see its going tobe great fun makeing my owen ammo when i get this right. |

Something doesn't sound right. What caliber are you loading? I'm wondering if you are loading something that has a primer pocket crimp, like 9mm Nato or the like. The primer is seated when you push the handle forward toward the press. If the primer is not seating all the way then something is blocking the complete movement of the press. It could be a primer pocket crimp or could be debris under the shell plate carrier like a spent primer. Are you de-priming while loading or are your cases already de-primed? As for the primer spilling, again, the caliber is important. What is your caliber and charge for the Power Pistol powder? Might have to switch to a powder that is less bulky to reduce spillage. Also, is your press mounted down firm to reduce movement? Tell us more and we'll see if we can get you rockin' and rollin'. jonblack |
| Spent hour and a half last night with mine doing set up and tuning. Have yet to run first case throiugh.....Tetragreased indexing rod and ran until smooth. I reallly like the way it indexes. Impressive little press for $159.00......Everything is set up. Time for a road trip to Grafs and Midway for primers and AR parts.... Too many projects going on at once... |

Clean well after unpacking. Lee ships everything with protective oil coatings.
Clean the dies, and the powder drop tubes with alcohol to remove grease. See here for the best help on Lee tools loadmastervideos.com forum |

Priming issues you describe are a common issue with the Pro1000, but they can be overcome. As stated above keep everything clean, if you spill powder, stop and clean it all up. One grain of powder can cause a primer misfeed. If you drop powder in a case without a primer, stop and clean the press up, compressed air is the easiest way I have found. Frequently check the primer ram as a powder grain or any other crud on the ram will prevent the primer will many times flip the primer as it feeds. Always make sure the primer chute is full of primers. As soon as the tray is empty, refill it; the weight of the stack of primers pushes the primer onto the ram. Take the powder cute out of the press and wax the inside with Johnsons Paste Wax, Carnuba Wax or even Pledge. Coat the inside of the chute with wax and then buff it out with pipe cleaners, a rolled up piece of cloth, Q-Tips or anything you can get into the chute. The chute must be slick inside or you will have feeding problems. You shouldn't have problems with power pistol I use a lot of it in my Pro 1000 without any problems. Is the powder spilling because of jerky movements or is leaking out of the powder measure? Leaking and spilled powder is the biggest cause of primer problems (it bears repeating). If powder is shaking out of the case due to shell plate movement, your press probably isn't mounted on a surface that is stable enough. Another possibility is the press needs to be lubricated. Don't give up on the Pro1000, it will work and it can really crank out good quality ammo. Don't worry about speed, make sure you are getting good ammo, speed will come with practice. One last bit of advice load one round at a time until everything works properly and everything is adjusted the way you want it.

| A big thanks. I did all the above . Did about 900 9mm with it today ( It was a long day) Its running better I just got to keep it clean. What is slowing me down is I think I need more flare to help setting on the last stage holding the bullet all the way up the stroke sure slow things down. Over all I am happy with it. thanks again. |
| like a lot of folks have said, keep the primer delivery system ultra clean. you can also put a little graphite powder to smooth it out. one very important thing that most people don't think about with the pro 1k is that it need a SOLID,non moving or flexing bench to work well. |

Run your powder drop - expander drop die down half a turn at a time until you reach desired flare. The way Lee set the die from factory is a little shallow.... 900 is a better than excellent day with this press. Still haven't run the first round with mine yet.... Did some work with 1/4" wing nuts today. Flattened the sides so they wouldn't catch sides of press. This way swapping presses from stand takes only a few minutes to change from Lee Turret to Pro 1000. Holes are the same............. Needed Turret set up to work up new loads using VihtaVouri 3N37 for use with Nosler 9mm/115 grain hp and Sierra Sports Master 125 grain JHP. Never out grow a good turret press....... Load work up much, much easier. Get my loads dialed in, then tune and crank up the press. Glad to hear you had a good day.. How many primer mechanism failures did you have in 900 round run ? |
| Thats a good question. They are being loaded for a Glock 34 using factory Glock barrel so I have pressure concerns. I want a fairly hot round so I'll be working up slowly using a chronometer. Sierra calls for a c.o.a.l. of 1.075 using their 125 grain jhp. Their accuracy load was obtained using American Select powder. I've never heard of it..... I was advised to use VihtaVouri 3N37 that I will start at 5.5 grains which should push 1000+ fps and run my ladder to 6.0 that will push 1100+fps. If your going to load Sierra very much I strongly encourage you to buy the manual. It's just about the best manual I have as I load a lot of Sierra. |
| Update this moring I got up and tore the whole thing down cleaned and reset all the dies. I had a much better idie what should be going on and why. I had 100 primers left over so I ran them through . I got to tell you it made all the diffrents in the world. Ran all one hundred in just a few mins. Thanks to every one for there help I am going to enjoy reloading. |
