I have had 3 buyers back on on buying this M16 because they all said its an obvious refinish job, and the finish doesnt look right. WTF are they talking about? Am I missing something? Looks all legit/original to me, and I never refinished it.
hi-res pic - http://www.adcofirearms.com/sale/m16close.jpg After close examination of your photos, I have concerns about the condition of your receiver and feel that I should take a pass on it's purchase. I know it was no safe queen, but feel like it may have been refinished in the past. You said in the ad that the other side was fine but the rollmarks are kinda messed up? I have to pass on it. |

It looks all legit and original to me, too, and I've seen quite a few over the years. (FWIW, almost all refinishing jobs are either in darker gray or the current black; I can't imagine any LE agency spending the extra $$, time and effort to refinish in the original lighter Colt gray.) The uneven depth of the factory markings may be what concerns them –– but that is so common, I would be more wary of a factory gun where all the markings are identical in depth. Feel free to tell 'em that Tony K sez it looks original. |

OK, I just spotted something in the photo that proves the finish is original: The blob of black coverup paint that Colt always used for touchup after installing the bolt-release roll pin.
I have never heard of any shop that replaces that mark on a refinished receiver. So yeah, it's an original Colt finish. |

That recievers Magwell looks almost Identical to my 9.1mil RR. The Deeper C (on CAL.) is the same, as well as the slightly deeper T,1 and M. On the back half, the DIVISION on mine is just as deep and pronounced, with the Colts Firearms, Colt division, Hartford Conn, U.S.A. being struck lighter, just the same as the picture. The only difference is on mine, the Safe,Semi,Auto is just as deep as the Division.
On a side note, do you know where that hammer came from, or is it the original? I just recieved a M16 FCG in which all parts are stamped with those S's in the squares. |
