I have built a semi auto ar15, and I dont even know where to start to getting into a full auto M16. I would like to build it for .22 and would like to use the  parts I have of my rifle already built. So do i need to find a M16 lower receiver to build on? Do they even exsist anymore? If so, where could I find one? And is there any way registering my receiver now for full auto use? I guess my main question is cheapest way to have full auto AR legally. Thanks

Oh Boy, this will be good!

The only way you can legally get a full auto M16 is to get a transferable M16.  They are not cheap.  I bet they are up to 15k-20k range by now.  Any transferable machine gun will cost you a lot of money.

I suggest you read up before you try something silly and end up in Federal "PMITA" Prison.

The CHEAPEST way is to get a registered lightning-link or registered auto-sear...

That is the only way to LEGALLY convert a semi AR to full...

The process is the same as for a complete gun, but the 'part' is the registered 'firearm' in this case...

Prices are comparable to (but slightly lower than) a registered M16 reciever....

RDIAS' are currently commanding more $$$ than Registered Receivers.

You just need to drill a hole in the receiver to make it full auto.  I'm kidding.  What the above poster's said is correct.

Won't supergluing the firing pin in place work?

The cheapest way to have one is, to buy two more machineguns, wait a few years sell off the extras and keep the one you like for zero money.

"That is the only way to LEGALLY convert a semi AR to full..."

Actually, that's not entirely true.  It can be done legally if you form a firearms manufacturing business, get a Type 07 FFL issued to you, and pay the Class 2 SOT.  Then, it's just a matter of doing what you like and notifying the government via a Form 2.  Oh, and paying the appropriate FET.

That's what I did.  I actually built a couple M-16's last month.  One was sold to an FFL/SOT here in TN, the other was for us to use as a test-bed for suppressors.  (Really, it was built for us to play with when we felt like it.)  Now, I have three post-sample M-16's, all built by converting AR recievers.

Is it really feasible for most people?  No, but, it is legal.
