This will probably seem like heresy to those of you on this board, but...

I don't want a .50 BMG.
I want a .408 CheyTac in a Windrunner configuration - better ballistics.

Why doesn't someone come out with a .499 BMG using a .50 BMG case and dies but neck sized down by 0.001"  to comply with the law - no .50 BMG's.  A new bullet is required but reedesign should be minimal.  You could even swage .50 caliber bullets down to the new .499 caliber size.

Is this the first time a specific caliber was outlawed?

Well, all I can say is that in 10 years folks just like you will be looking back saying "I could have bought a 50 for $2000 back in the good old days".

You can buy a .408 any day, but there aren't too many 50BMG days left for you guys in the PRK.

You live in California.  We stopped caring what you thought about 20 years ago.

Edited to add:  If you are so concerned, why don't you work on getting Diane replaced.

I'm working on it.  I'm working on it.  Feinstein is not really on the chopping block, but Boxer is.  I plan to vote against Boxer.  I do not feel she adequately represents me in the Congress.

The depth of your empathy for we poor souls trapped in this hell hole is what enables me to get through each day.  Your pity is appreciated.   NOT!

So, why do people want .50 BMG's anyway?  There's nothing wrong with owning one AFAIC, but why?

#1: Pure Power. A 750gr projo traveling at 2900fps with superb accuracy at extended ranges.

#2: Cool Ammo. Ball, AP, API, APIT, SLAP, SLAP-T, Raufoss, Incendiary, Spotter/Tracer,AMAX, etc.

#3: Cool Factor. Put an AR50 on the bench and bust open a can of linked ammo and the boys at the range must come over and look. They just can't resist the urge.

#4: Ammo is mucho cheaper than .409 Cheytac. Most everything I listed above is under $2 a pop and is relatively easy to find.

The .408 Cheytac is a fine round and Dean is a great guy but I'll stick with at big boy for now.

What has really got me interested right now is the opening of a window of opportunity allowed by 50 BMG assault weapon registration.

The 408 is a humdinger for sure.
HAve you tried pricing ammo and reloading components for the 408? Talk about sticker shock. I considered a 408, for about 15 minutes. Then  realized the .50 was a better choice.
