I went into a local gunshop here in Aurora, CO yesterday and saw what I thought was a preban FAL. I asked the guy behind the counter to let me see it when I looked at it,it had Hesse on the receiver and a standard FAL flash suppressor on it. I told the guy that even though I don't believe in that stupid law that rifle might be illegal, he wanted $999 for it. He said that the owner checks out all guns and that it was legal. He said Hesse is from Europe and they made pre-ban rifles. I said ok and left,I wouldn't pay that much for a Hesse FAL even if it was legal but some poor sap is getting setup for failure.

Some things you might want to know:

- ALL Hesse guns are complete crap, and many are unsafe to fire.
- Hesse receivers are the "default" receivers used for most of the Century kit guns (FAL, L1A1, R1A1, HK91/G3, CETME, etc.).  That's why Century has such a bad reputation.
- Hesse is an American company.
- Be sure that you didn't see an STG-58 look-alike muzzle brake, as manufactured by Tapco and used by DSA.

Legal, post-ban muzzle brakes.

Ditto on the Hesse is shit sentiment. Total garbage.

$1,000.00 for a Hesse FAL? And to think someone could get a beautiful DSA STG-58 for that money.

That depends on whether they fed the monkeys that day or not , I guess  they were well feed on the day when they made my Cetme , works like a charm . Others have not been so lucky with their purchases . With Hesse its definitely buyer beware !

I have considered parting up a FAL and having it put together by gunsmith I deal with. He advised me to NOT get the Hesse as the ones he had dealt with in past were not of good quality.

Home-built FAL carbine on a Hesse...yessss...hesse receiver.

Of course...it DID have problems...like maybe a hundred of them...but I sure know my FALs now.
