Ok- I have the bug after shooting one today. I want to buy the parts and a 91 and do as much as I can on the build- then send it out for final assembly. I am not going to be able to sell the wife on the turnkey HK21 from TSG up front so are there complete kits out there or do I have buy each part seperately from a place like Ohio Rapidfire?

Any info would be great as this is a start from scratch project and I am in the dark on the build.

All I can say is, good luck finding an 'e' parts kit.

Call Ralph at RDTS and speak with him. www.rdts.com/Page7.html

If you want the real thing it will be very expensive.  I think the last time I saw a 21E being offered as a parts set it was something like $20k or $25K I can't quite recall the exact amount.  A push pin G3 receiver runs something like $14k.  It will then cost something like $2k to have a compentent smith "cut and paste" so to speak.  A .223 conversion kit will be something like $7.2k assuming you can find a 23E barrel  for $3.5k.

It is my understanding from discussions with Terry Dyer if you want a swing down beltfeed mechanism this is about the only way the BATFE will allow.  Well, I suppose, if you could find one of the 5 or so semi-auto 21A1 that Vollmer did many years ago and put a registered sear in a 21E trigger group -- you could do it that way, too.

Then of course there is Michaels Machine 23EMM -  vapor ware

Did some one say 23?

my best friend shooting a 23, what a fun gun to shoot.  Amazing ate of fire and it flings braas almost as far and as hard as lead.  It was built off of a swing down G3.

The 21's aren't as much fun to shoot.  I prefer the Mag 58 or M60. But the rate of fire is every bit a impressive as the 23.  That's a Ohio Rapid fire with registered Sear.  I've shot a transferable w/ a registered sear, no difference then the ORF gun.

If you're going 308 belt fed, ya gotta go for the Mag58
