Hey guys, I have pretty much decided on a LNL progressive instead of a XL650, but I am not sure what I need for the powder measure. What is needed to attach the case activated powder dispenser to the press. Is there a powder thru die I need? If so, universal or per caliber? Powder funnel by caliber like the dillon?
I've probably searched on this for 3 hours today but if there a topic that covers this, just shoot me the link and I'll read up. Worst case, I'll give hornady a call tomorrow. |

the case activated powder drop has inserts that allow you to adjust to the various diameters you'll be loading, if you're buying the AP new it'll come with everything for the powder measure.
It attaches to the press using the LNL bushings, just like the dies. Jason |

If you are loading Jacked Rounds, I would highly recommend the: Powder Funnel PTX Insert [Adjust the Height for the amount of case flare, Just enough to top a bullet] http://www.powderfunnels.com/ Also, Additional Items that make reloading more efficient/pleasant on the Hornady LNL AP: http://inlinefabrication.com/collections/hornady-lock-n-load-ap-ergo-roller-lever ^ Pretty much use everything they make  , Just plain works.

(pistols need the PTX) It comes with three different length tubes for dropping powder into short medium and tall cases. You want to buy the bullet feeder die for the caliber you are loading. The bullet feeder die comes with the PTX powder through expander die for the powder measure.

You do not need a die for each caliber, but it makes it easier as you don't have to reset the height of the die for each case length and style. I have a die for each caliber and complete CAPDs for each of my powder measures. This way when I go to load it is plug and play, no adjusting. SCRAMBLD is correct in that if you buy the LNL AP you will get everything basically needed, with the exception of caliber specific dies, to begin reloading. I used the original set up for quite awhile before going to the PTX on my 9mm and still haven't used a PTX when loading 45ACP. |

For future reference, in order to avoid any changeover readjustments I bought a second PM to have one with the pistol and another with the rifle rotor installed, and one Quick Change Powder Die and PTX Linkage bar per caliber. For most calibers with a standard load(s) I have a dedicated metering insert pre-set, and micrometer adjustable inserts for the rest. How this goes together easily will become clear after you have (cleaned and) set the PM up for yourself the first time. GLHF and be safe! |
| OP ignore all the PTX shit, you DO NOT need that. The press comes with all that you need for dispensing powder. I have had my press since 1999 and have never used a PTX die and I use the bullet feeder. These are nice thing to have, but that was not your question. |

Exactly, there are tons of nice to haves for reloading and actually very few necessities. Get the basics down with your set up and then determine if the need is truly there. Use the cost savings from buying the "extras/not required" items and buy components. I've cranked out thousands of 9mm and 45 without a PTX, bullet or case feeder right out of the box. |

Exactly what I had planned. I've reloaded for years, and had turret presses but this is the first progressive. Most questions have been answered through searching already, just couldn't find the one that caused me to start this thread. Honestly, I just didn't want to have to pay shipping again if I NEEDED something else. If I want something else after getting it setup, that's a different story.
