How many Garand stocks will fit in the dishwasher?

I took the top rack out and rearranged many times before I settled for six.

When they came out I found some cartouches had been buried under the crud on two of them.

The stocks had lots of small dents but are now gone. except for very small gouges the stocks are ready for light steel wool or sanding.

These were inexpensive stocks from Dougstockpile and I knew I would not worry if I made a mistake. I will sand and finish them all, with care on the cartouches. Two have cartouches. One with "circle P" and 3/8" DoD the other with a double stamped (3/16" off)  "square P" on the grip. 3 are birch and 3 walnut. I have V and rounded cutouts.

I plan on finding homes for some woodless danes if you bastards don't buy them all before Jan 1 when I can buy more. (I know, I know, busted)

I got a dozen CMP's this year. I just became addicted and panicked when I saw them disappearing.

Those CMP Garands will NOT get the sanding. They are in good enough condition that I would be removing something special. Care through their history.

SO you are the one that bought up all of the Garands

According to the CMP forum, there are enough Garands to last at least two more years.
I own several and will be going back for more. The South Store is only a four and a half hour drive from my house.

correction: there are enough shitty rackers to last 2 more years.  the nicer grades (collector, correct, and service) are all but gone.  field grade will be next, most likely in the next 8mos to a year

Most of the Danes have worn barrels unless you get one with the vaunted "VAR" barrel. They are a treasure trove of parts though; the three I've bought so far have a mix of Springfield and Winchester parts. Also, some of them come with lockbar sights.

If you get lucky you will find one with all of the above plus a six-digit or lower serial number.

Thanks for the correction, but a "shitty racker" is still a Garand. No?

of course it is.  i meant that people talk about a "at least 2 year supply" like the current level of quality will always be available, and it will not.

The North and South stores are pretty far from Delaware.

I plan to make a trip ASAP after Jan. 1

You can get some pretty nice field grades with a visit to one of the stores.  I was a magnet for brand new barrels when I was there in August.  I'd be looking at one FG rifle with MW under 2, with another clamped between my knees and some guy would tap me on the shoulder, hand me a third and say "this one has a nice (meaning "brand spankin' new") barrel."

That was my experience as well. Hand picking a FG is as worthwhile as getting an SG, if you discount the stock.

When I was there, I noticed that most of the other buyers were looking for correct receiver/barrel combos- I was looking for shooters.

Picked up two FGs that had awesome barrels, and just replaced the stocks.

when i'm at the store what i do is take their loaner MW gauge and just walk down the rack checking every barrel.  if it swallows the gauge it doesnt get a second look.  when i find one that has a decent barrel, the next thing i do is cross check the SN against the production records to date the rifle.  i prefer WWII ones... wood is not a concern

Never a concern? If you get a looker, put the nice stock on a nice rifle. That wood is hard to get. Handguards alone are worth $25 a pop. I need some now and it's no picnic.
Yeah, I wiill try to get all the rifles I keep as correct and nice as possible. So I do consider it all as equal. Hey, a gun with a crap barrel has a treasure trove of great parts if it's from CMP. No such thing as a bad deal.
