AIM has some for $99 and I think that it would be a great beater gun to have, plus 12 rds of .308 would do some damage for SHTF purposes. So are they decent, accurate, not worth the money or what? Also can they be shot with commercial .308 or does it have to be 7.62x51? |

I got one of AIM's Ishapores and I love it. Nuts on accurate at 25 yards, haven't shot at great distance yet. Heavy enough that the recoil isn't punishing like it is with Mausers. The trigger is also surprisingly good for a surplus military gun. I shoot surplus 7.62 - you'll get a mix of opinions on shooting .308 in it, most would tell you that it is safest to find 7.62 or load some lighter .308s. I say buy it! Oh, one negative - cosmoline. |

Depends on the particular rifle. Going out on a skinny limb so be nice if I'm wrong on some facts. I'm going on memory. The 2-piece stock doesn't effect accuracy at all unless the wood at the receiver is soft, cracked, or not securely attached allowing movement. I think they need some down force, or up force from the hand guard at the muzzle end, but that depends on the model. I seem to recall that there is some serious voodoo magic in shimming enfields for accuracy. Not impossible, just takes very careful attention to detail and following some very old manuals. I don't think these guns respond well at all to free-floating the barrel. I've got a few of the older #3s and #4s and they are a joy to shoot. With Paki ammo they're still pretty good as far as accuracy goes. If I fed them a better quality diet I'm sure they'd outshoot me. The Ishy's were manufactured after the war and are good to go with the 308 AND you get the fabulous enfield action. Check the overall condition of the wood, the bore, rifling, and barrel crown like you would any other rifle and you should have a good one. ymmv edited for Errrr, spelling, cause I'm speshal. |

Unfortunatley the ad doesn't give a lot of details about them www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Enfield_2A_Shooter_Grade_Special_.308_NATO_7.62x51_Rifle.html |
