Springfield M1A NM.  Zeroed for mil-spec 7.62.  Rear sight is at mechanical center.  Front sight is...well-

Anything that can be done about that?  or do I just have to live with it?

Wow, wither your barrel is bent or the shoulder of the barrel is not concentric. Who made the rifle?

I make all my windage adjustments with my rear sight. Neither of my rear sights are centered but I just don't care. I'm too obsessive compulsive to be able to stand an off center front sight.

The barrel is over indexed.
Easy fix.
Pull the barrel..........swage the shoulder............reinstall & time it up correctly.
I corrected a few in my days.

Bent or not concentric ???
Now THAT is the funniest thing I've read in a long time.

Does not sound like something a kitchen table gunsmith like myself should attempt.

You would need a barrel vise & receiver wrench to do it & a lathe to swage the barrel shoulder.
SAI may or may not get it right if you ship it back depending on who looks at it they may think it's acceptable when it's really not.
You should ask for Larry Collinson in the production dept. as he is the production manager there.
Tell him it's way over indexed.
Who knows, you might end up with a new barrel installed.
Hell, tell him I told you to call as he knows who I am.

You can make a shoulder rolling tool from a pipe cutter, or you could peen it.  But, you're best bet is to see if SAI will fix it. If not, you can always send it to one of the 14 smiths on TFL.  You will pay around $200 with shipping/labor, barring no other issues.

Holy Moses.

Pipe cutter ??
Peen it ??
That right there would make me run away & as fast as possible.

And $200. for such a simple job that takes maybe 20-30 minutes ??
Another reason to avoid the M14forum if they're gouging customers with over priced fees.

I only charge $60. for a job like that & it includes return S&H.

I just replaced the factory flash suppresser with an M14 flash suppresser.  It centered my front sight.
