OK I'm new to FALs and just got a R1A1 (G1). I'm at a loss on how to remove the cocking handle assembly. Can anyone help me out. Pictures would be nice also.

Take the handguards off and move the HG ring foward.  Take a 1/16 punch and remove the roll pin under the knob.  Lift up cocking handle stud and the rest will slide out forward.  Simple.

OK I see it now. Not under the knob but right next to the stud. Cool. Now I have to get a replacement cocking handle. Anybody know where I can get a good priced one? Thanks again.

If you want to remove the whole charging handle, there is another pin (same size as one under the knob) that holds a piece of metal that goes in teh groove the charging handle slides in. REmove the piece of metal and slide charging handle out the back.

I hope that makes sense, I'm not good at explaining how to do this stuff.

Yes I want to remove the whole thing. I still dont see the one under the knob though. I'm going to replace ihe whole thing anyway. It looks like crap and the knob is all messed up. So removing the roll pin for the the piece of metal you describe will allow the whole assembly to side off from the rear? I will try this when I get back home. Thanks.

EXACTLY! The pin that goes in the top hole holds a spring and plunger.

ETA: Oops, just noticed the spring and plunger are in the pic.
