Did M1's come standard with 4 groove or 6 groove barrels, or both depending on manufacturer?  My 5/44 Springfield barrel is 4 groove and I just wanted to know if that was the most common.  MJD

They're all 4-groove.

You see an M1 with a 6 groove barrel and it's a commercial aftermarket tube.

and if you see 2-grooves, look for the weld in the midsection of the receiver as you walk away.
