| do you guys seem to be able to fit in your safes compared to what the manufacturer says will fit? |

Half if you are lucky, using the standard configuration. I've basically gutted mine and gone to rifle rods. A 30 gun safe will hold 30 lever action rifles and single shot shotguns without any type of optics. So add a gun for a pistol grip and add a gun for a scope and you get a 3:1 "gun ratio" if you don't want them banging against one another. 10 ARs with optics = 30 guns. Standard rifles with scopes is a 2:1 ratio.
Safe organization and setup hasn't changed hardly at all since they became common. The same crappy configuration time and time again. |

I bought one of the B-rate safes from a1abdj. http://www.zykansafe.com/brategunsafes.html
It came pretty close to meeting the advertised 40 gun capacity. Part of that is due to the capacity not being ridiculously overstated, but the interior is also laid out pretty well. There are racks on each side that hold 5 rows of 3, and a U shaped rack in the middle with spots for 10. I got 13 on the left rack with no problems, and I could probably squeeze in another with some work if I rearranged. The majority of those had scopes and/or pistol grips. The middle rack I was able to get all 10 in there easily. Once again, most had scopes and pistol grips. On the right side I only have a few, with room for future expansion. The upper shelves are big enough to each hold a few carbine length guns as well. An AK fits up there easily. If I crammed it to capacity, I think I could easily get 50-60 long guns in there as long as some of them were short enough to fit on the horizontal shelves, plus there would still be storage room on the door for handguns. The only ones I had issues with were my old Turkish Mauser, my beat up Wingmaster, and my Mosin Nagant. Those are so long that I had to move up the bottom shelf and they can't fit onto the back row because they are too long to make the turn under the shelf. The fit in there fine after I moved the shelf up and used a storage row closer to the front. |

I've packed 'em in like sardines before, sometimes 2x-3x what the safe was "supposed" to hold, until I broke down and bought another safe... then another... then another. Here is the largest of my safes when I had it packed pretty full ("over-full," really, but still usable): http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y12/HardShell/RWB%20-%20Safes%20and%20Storage/PR014.jpg What safe is that you have there? |
| I have two different Ft Knox safes, and both hold half waht they claim to hold. Most of my rifles are either bolt guns with scopes, or AR platform types. One is supposed to hold 16 and I have three 223 AR's, an M1A, and 5 bolt guns with scopes. the rifle section is full... the other is supposed to hold 20. It has 10 of various types and I have to remove several rifles to get anything other then the 4 in the front row... |

Is there any company that makes modern safe configurations that we could buy aftermarket? |

| I squeezed in about 80% of the stated long gun capacity of each of my safes. Which includes shotguns, M1s, M1As, ARs, CETMEs, etc. I have 24 plus in the 32 gun safe, 22 plus in the 28 gun safe, and 9 or so in the 12 gun safe. That does not count the pistols in the safes. Which would add another 50 or so guns in all three of the safes. |

Quoted: I have 30 rifles in this TL-15.....the key is rifle rods. http://imageshack.us/a/img99/6740/safe1.jpg I have really been thinking about trying those out, but just haven't bit the bullet for some reason. The next time I am at the point of having to buy yet another safe, I think I will try them in one first and see how they work for me. |

One big top shelf and rifle rods. I don't even have it organized well and have 50% more stuff in there than before. |
