| How much flare should there been in the neck of a pistol case . If the bullets can easily slide it is that too much or should there be some resistance or a lot of resistance. I am reloading 40 S&W bullets are 180 FMJ. Lee Dies. |
| Two things need to be addressed: shaving the sides of a lead bullet AND making sure the bullet is loaded STRAIGHT into the case. Whatever it takes to make these two happen at a MINIMUM. The more you flare the brass the more you work harden it and make it brittle. There are people into competition who place more value in keeping the bullet straight. |

You can only flare them so much anyway as it will not fit up in the seating die properly. I probably flare mine more than most just to make sure I don't have anymore of the coke bottle look than I have to. It seems to help with that if you run your flare die a little deeper, but again you can only run it so much and then you will have it rubbing the inside of your seating die.
