| Paper work was mailed in on August 29th (overnight mail) and my check was cashed on September 3rd. Is this a good sign, and how can I check on things? |

Unless you have something on your record (i.e. a felony or domestic violence conviction) that prohibits you from owning weapons you SHOULD be gtg. With NFA items it takes about a month to go from finance to your examiner (this is when you go "pending"). Once the FBI check is completed and the examiner gets to your file if anything shows up that is questionable it will be referred to their supervisor who can either approve it and sign it off (in which case you are good to go), have the examiner request additional info from you for further review or deny it. Luckily for me I do not know if you are denied if you have the right to appeal as it never got that far! |

well, heres the problem i just encountered. i have my GED. yeah, i know. but i went to start a new job, and they said the proof wasnt legal, and they couldnt find anything in the system. and i got it at a local community college, where i am currently taking class'. so, apparently something went wrong with the paper work. and i was told by a friend that it might screw it up.... but i have a clear record, literally nothing. not even a ticket |
| Also, what is this "system" they are talking about with GEDs or high school diplomas? There is no system, that is why when you apply to a job you bring a copy of your high school diploma. I had to do the same thing when I joined the military. Could you imagine that database, home schoolers, GEDs, etc.? |

That was true with most of the examiner staff when NFA Branch was back in D.C. But now that they've moved to W.Va., all of the D.C. staff is gone except for William Shipman. The new hires do not punish applicants for calling. |
This is very true... I had to call the NFA branch twice on two seperate occaisions, to ask some quick questions, and my examiner(Barbara Payne) was super nice and very helpful on both occasions... After hearing the William Shipman horror stories I feel very lucky that I got Barbara on my first go round... |
The RED is the key part. Your best bet would be to try and forget the item exists. You can play with it on thanksgiving...if you are lucky. |
