I intend to buy a full size polymer frame Kahr pistol and chop down the grip like a Covert Kahr.

Bandsaw?

Dremel tool with cutoff saw blade?

Both will require filing/sanding after cutting, of course.

I use a dremel with cutoff wheel.

What kind of enlightenment are you looking for? Measure, cut slightly long, finish very carefully.

I'm looking for finishing techniques that don't make the gun look like I cut it with a Dremel.
You know, chamfered edges, etc.
I guess I'm just nervous about taking a Dremel to a firearm frame.

This is my cut down 17 before it got stippled.

You can cut it with whatever, I used a Dremel with a cutting wheel.

I marked it off using masking tape.

The key is to leave a few millimeters for sanding.

Use a coarse grit to take it down to where you want it and then use a fine grit to finish it up.
Finished product. (post stippling)

Sandpaper. Fine grit will leave a smooth finish. Rub a little oil over it once you're done. If you want to match the factory textured finish you'll need to lightly blast it.

Use a disc sander to trim it down then sandpaper on a wood block to round it all down. Go slow and it'll come out nice and straight... Or have a smith do it.
