| There are a couple of AR lowers i would like to refinish with either Alumahyde or Cerakote. I have not decided which yet. I have no way of sandblasting any of the lowers. Does the original finish have to be taken off? or do you just use sand paper to rough it up, degrease and then finish? All inputs appreciated. |

You should not need to sand the lower at all. I've refinished 5 upper/lower combos with Norrells and the only prep was a thorough degrease. +1 I've refinished 2 lowers by doing just a very good degreasing and then spraying Norrells Moly resin on them. That was 6 years ago and they are holding up great. |

Will rubbing alcohol work to degrease it or what do you guys use? I'm not sure rubbing alcohol would be a very good degreaser but you could try it. I've used carb cleaner and brake cleaner. If you go w/ brake cleaner I've read that you should use the non-chlorinate stuff. I've also done a final cleaning with hot water and soap on one receiver I did just to see how it would work. Won't hurt anything since it's aluminum. |
