I had been thinking about getting a Savage in .308... then I saw this Howa.

It's $511 at Bud's.  Would I regret getting this instead?

Tough decision.

Howa's are by all means an excellent rifle. Weatherby is so fond of them they stamp their name on them and sell them as their Vanguard with a 1.5MOA or better guarantee. I always enjoy my wife's Howa .308 when I get an opportunity to sneak it out of the safe. It's accuracy is impressive, certainly on level with the widely regarded Savage barrels, and the 4 land/groove rifling picks up minimal fouling.

I had one for a while and loved it.  I sold it to get an AR, but it was very accurate with cheap ammo and the stock trigger was very nice.  If I were to pick up another .308 it would be a Howa.

Great rifles. I just got a 243 with the green Houge  stock.

Only negative is the weight with the Houge stock. It is a heavy gun
but it is also very well built. Alot of metal with the floorplate and triggerguard vs the competion in the price range.

Mine shoots in the 7's with about anything from 55grs. to 87grs.

I had one of the Smith & Wessom 1500's a long time ago. It was the very same Howa rifle. Mine was a heavy barrel .223
Really accurate rifle with 55g V Maxs'

I've got a light barreled .223 and it is almost boringly accurate.

The action is also considerably smoother than my Savage or the remingtons I've used.

Howas are fine, my Grandfather who owns a shop In Pa, has set aside Weatherby Vanguards in .270 Win (re-badged Howas) for my four cousins
