I took my Marlin 1895 SBL 45-70 out today and shot it for the first time, the recoil was much lighter than I expected. My range is 25m; I do have some steel plates set up at 50m and 52m on the other side of the creek but they are are overgrown and were not visible from the firing line today. I bought 200 rounds of Hornady 325 gr FTX LEVERevolution when I bought this rifle and that is the ammo I used today. My sight is a Trijicon RMR. I aimed at the center target for my first three shot group and they hit lower left. I adjusted twelve clicks right and ten clicks up then fired the next three shot group which nailed the center of my aim point. Considering the cost of this ammo I was very happy to zero in only six shots. As a bonus one of my younger grandsons was visiting me and got to shoot the Marlin 1895 and he loved it. ETA: The sling and stock wrap from Buffalo Brand Leather; I'd originally ordered the stock wrap with the T-Rex skull but I wasn't satisfied with the one that I received (it looked more like a coconut with teeth than a T-Rex) so I returned it for a T-Rex free stock wrap. Mine is a "JM" Marlin in .450 Marlin caliber with a factory ported barrel. I used Leupold QD scope rings to be able to remove the scope and use open sights. You have me thinking about adding a red dot option. Attached File |
So... I find comfort in the fact that if Trump has to work so hard to go to Heaven, then there is a shit load of Democrats that have no f-cking chance to go anywhere but HELL. Sometimes it is entirely appropriate to kill a fly with a sledge-hammer.

| first time shooting a 45/70 I was very much not a fan of the recoil. I felt like it was much too violent for what it was doing ballisticlly. A week later I got to shoot the same gun with the same ammo and a nice can and man what a difference! Now I'm half shopping for one, along with some of those 777gn subs to go with it. only 69 FEET of drop at 500 yards |

| Beautiful rifle and good shooting. Enjoying this may be the nudge you need to start reloading. This caliber certainly lends itself to it as you can take advantage of the great range in loads you can make. You can make some really fun mild cast loads that kids can even shoot for having fun with milk jugs and such. |

| A modest investment in reloading 45-70 will pay off quickly and allow you to shoot it enough to enjoy it. Look around for a used single stage press. A quick internet video will have you up and running in no time. A Lee factory crimp die greatly improved my 45-70 performance. |
