A friend of mine is looking for a helmet that can keep his nugget free from bullet holes. A lot of the websites that I've seen these available on indicate that they are LE/Military only. Is this actually the case? Can civilians not purchase this kind of head protection? If he is able to purchase legally do you guys have a recommendation for where to find them online?
Thanks |

They are easy to pick up. Hell it shouldn't be hard to find one here in the EE. Sme outfits want to only sell to LE/MIL, but there are company's out there that will sell you one, no problem. Great to hear. After seeing so many sights LE/Mil only I was beginning to wonder. |

Also check some surplus stores, and pawn shops if you live in a military town. Joe's always selling their gear. Gun broker also. And Ops Corp helmets I think do also. |

If he is on a budget get a used ACH off eBay for $100 or $200 new.
If he has the cash the ops core fast or Crye is a high end model. As always i recommend ppl take a little time to do some research on armor, what it will stop, what their most likely threat will be, an how be pieces will all fit together rather than just buying the first things they see. |

Thanks as others said the helmets are rather easy to find. The second part of the story however is the more important one. A helmet is not a panacea for ballistic threats. Helmets are generally IIIA or a mil standard armor recipe. That means pistol protection. Unless one chooses a rifle helmet (not common or inexpensive) or adds a SLAAP plate any rifle protection is off the table. Based on the original post it is unclear whether your bud understands that so it is worth mentioning. if IIIA is what meets his requirement caution in selecting one to purchase is in order. As with all armor new is always recommended, even with helmets. There are also a lot of fakes out there in the secondary / ebay / "surplus" market, so it is a buyer beware endeavor. vr AT |
