does anybody have a source? Thanks! A rifle cut to accept inch mags will also accept metric mags. Just in case you didn't know that. To answer your question, I have no source for inch mags. Something interesting just happened last week. I sold a member here a mostly South African FAL built on a later production Century receiver. I has what looks to me to have the Inch/Metric cut. It worked without problems after I built it, but when he took it to the range, he kept having jamming problems. We checked everything that might cause the jam. I had used new gas parts, i.e. piston and spring, new regulator and new gasmtube. Pin was in properly. Finally decided it was the mag. In the mean time, he had purchased several Inch mags to try. Also, I have another FAL with the same receiver. Neither receiver will take the Inch mags! The distance from the front to the rear of the mag well is not enough to allow the mag to fit. I certainly learned something new. |
An inch pattern rifle sort of accepts metric mags. Sort of floppy, and depending on the metric mag, may fall out.
Inch mags were hard to come by for years, then suddenly, I began finding them in ones and twos cheap enough at $15-$19 each. Don't know where these came from? Just started showing up at my usual gunstores. Some have no finish left, some have Commenwealth black paint, some have near new looking original finish. There ar or were 40 shot 'Bren gun' mags made and available that will work too. |
