I wanted to get a semi 308 in a ar platform. Since my refund isnt what I thought it was going to be I have a little over 1k to get one. Should I just keep watching the auction side for a M1a? or bank it and hope I get the money for the semi down the road? the only place I have been looking is gunbroker. is there anywhere else to get a M1a?

Try the Equipment Exchange or the Classifieds on this site. Selections are as good as Gunbroker and the prices are better.

Watch Gun Broker with paitence. I've made a few great deals lately. Unfortunatly the lay offs have some people scrambling for fast cash and they are willing to take a loss to keep the wolves from the door.

Gunnroker rifles are 1500 and up the ones on the EE are less. I think I will go with one from the EE I have to get some information first about the rifle. I heard that parts are interchangeable between the scout and regular M1a and the Socom doesnt interchange this the other 2. is that true?

I'm a little confused, you start out say'in you want a 7.62 nato AR, then start talk'in bout looking for a m1a.
If you want a .308 AR you really shouldnt "settle" on a m1a. Just get the AR

I am not a AR guy, but about 18 months back I was impressed with the accuracy table on a .308 AR write up in Rifleman that was under 1K.
I dont keep up with the AR news, but, I would think you could get a nice .308 AR for around a grand. If you already own AR's, I would think it would be a easy transitiuon into a new caliber for someone to go for a 308 AR.

Either .308 platform, check out the EE on the various sites. If you are leaning towards an M1A then check out the M14 dedicated sites, and dont forget to check the local shops and Pawn shops too. I walked into one of my favorite local Gun shops last Nov and alked out with a preban SAInc M1A standard, HR barrel, SA oprod, TRW bolt and trigger group w/ USGI brown synthetic stock and a 20rnd USGI mag for $1100 out the door. They are out there and can be had, just keep looking.

Good luck,
