| I am trying to get all the things together for a range bag I have this , in coyote, they only have acu left. I am thinking it needs to hold a range finder some energy bars, a data book, pen, staple gun, staples, targets, a mini first aid kit. and what ever else I am soposed to have in a range bag. Got any ideas? |

I have that pack, and it is a poor choice for a range bag, as it is a top-loader, and it is hard to access the contents easily. Not a problem for a pack, but an issue for a frequently accessed range bag. What I do is to have one fairly large bag for stuff that I ALWAYS bring to the range no matter what I am shooting. A good candidate is the range bag offered by Midway. If you are patient, they come on sale fairly often, and the price drop is worth the usually short wait. I also carry a smallish bag for each firearm that I will shoot, and that bag contains what I will need to shoot that general type of firearm (shotgun, pistol, rifle), plus whatever firearm-specific items I will need, such as magazines, ammo, loading devices, and so forth. This organizes your items, and since the bags are not too huge, it is easy to find stuff. Having one huge bag for everything is a huge pain, as you will spend a lot of time hunting for stuff in the bag instead of shooting. Generally speaking, a shooting mat of some sort, a poncho, some hand-wipes and a roll of toilet paper are good things to put into your general bag. The shooting mat should have a shoulder strap, and the poncho can be rolled-up and stashed onto the bag somehow. Safety gear, of course, and some water. |

Is there a reason why you don't want a traditional range bag? Do you have to carry stuff too far?
If I were hiking out to a range, I think I'd still want a traditional range bag, stuffed in a backpack, with a slim, no pockets camelback for when I got there. Oh, and I like keeping sunscreen, bug spray, baby wipes, snacks, socks and gloves in every bag I own. 
Eta: come to think of it, quick clot and tourniquets might not be a bad idea for the ranges around here.... |
