All right, so my sheriff will NOT sign off on the forms I need to get to send to the ATF. What are my options now? They told me they had never been aware that rifles with barrels under 16 inches were legal howed I almost went to the county attorney to try and get him to sign off on it but I wasn't sure if that would be legit. so I was hoping you guys could help me out |

You need to go to BATFE website. There are a ton of ppl that can sign off. Basically anyone high up with arresting powers, chief of police, judges, chief of police for city, county and/or state. If all else fails go LLC or Trust. There is plenty of info and mis-info here on the boards. Pick thru it all wisely. some ppl seem to want to make a simple process way more complicated than it needs to be. Ive basically given up trying to help.

| look into setting up a trust, i just got mine back from my lawyer today. apparently the chief leo in palm beach county is an asshole and refuses to sign, so i set up a trust. the trust does not require a leo sign off, and the batf says they're cool. its a quick and easy fix. if the front door is locked, go in through a window. |
How would I go about this? Keep in mind I'm 18 and a college student so I do not have unlimited funds hinking.gif I think I am going to try and go to Owensborro to the federal building the sheriff told me to go to and see what they can do. Is it possible for the County Attorney to sign off on them? |

Took the 45 min drive to Owensborro to the federal building after my sheriffs depatrment told me thats where I have to get them done at since they won't sign off on them.... They looked at me and said wow they did it again. Aparently this is some scheme my local LEO do to avoid signing off on class 3. They told me they have done this several times before with hope that I will in the end just give up. The deputy in owensborro gave me their sheriffs number and told me to call him in the morning. He said that their sheriff will then call my sheriff and I quote " bitch your stupid democratics sheriffs pussy ass out" after i give him my information. They said that they are tired of them trying to prevent people from legally owning class 3 weapons. He also said that if they don't sign off on it after that, that they will get one of their US district attorneys to help me out.... So hopefully all ends well.... I'll keep you guys informed. |

Keep it up. I didnt think me CLEO (Sheriff) would sign off either, but in the end, it was one of the most painless things I ever had to do. He even signed off again when I had to take the forms back to him b/c I didnt use the updated Form 1. If your guy wont still wont sign. Head down to the court house and catch the DA or a Judge. Usually afternoons when all court sessions are over. They'll most likely sign off. It even says right on the Form that they can. |

I sent my e-mail to my CLEO explaining to him that there are two procedures one involves fingerprints and a CLEO signoff and the other involves a trust and no CLEO signoff or fingerprints. Second paragraph I explained that some CLEO's sign these things but some won't, although I would think most would rather know what was in their jurisdiction. Third paragraph I asked what his take was on the subject, since I had some purchases on order and was needed to know if I should register them as a trust or have him sign on them. First time he ran a local background check (2 days) Now I just walk in and get them signed... Well It worked for me. |
