I ASSUME the purpose of crimping the primers is to make sure they are held in place correct? (correct me if I'm wrong)

I looked at the pictures in the FAQ section tacked above, but I really can't tell the difference between a round that has a crimped primer and one that doesn't.

What the hell am I looking for, how do I tell the difference?

The lip that remains after the deprime is very hard to see.

It's a very small/thin ridge at the very top of the primer pocket.

Look for the faint ring around the primer, that's the crimp.

Sometimes the crimp is 3 stabs around the primer.

Primer crimps are there to ensure that the primer doesn't back out or fall out....either of which will render a full auto useless if the primer falls into the right(wrong?) place.

Here is another pic i took this morning.Left to right.#1 fired case, #2 resisized deprimed, #3 primer pocket swaged with Dillon Super Swager.
Notice the crimp ring is not perfectly centered around the primer and even on the swaged case some outer ring still shows but notice the rounded
area where its tapered from the swager....
