Howdy ya'll.

My first M14/M1A is at SEI getting rebuilt. About the only Chinese items that will remain upon return will be the gas cylinder/piston.

Since this M14 fever seems to be as bad as buck fever, I thought I'd ask some of you guys who are fortunate enough to have one (or more) of Ron's builds to share photos and info on how your "crazyhorses" shoot.

Mine will be in a traditional USGI fiberglass stock. I asked for a small rail for a QD bipod. Max pak upgrade, Gas cylinder shimmed. I forget what Ron called the crazyhorse barrel. It is a 22", between original contour and a meduim heavy. DC Vortex, Dovetail type gaslock/front sight. Scope mount, M80HT everything, etc.

If I do my part, what kind of accuracy should I expect? I have a good supply of Federal GM Match 168s, and I do handload (mainly for bolt guns thusfar). Also have a pile of the Lithuanian M80 ball.

Any photos/comments/info to help me with my jones is appreciated. It should be home in a week or two.

Here are some pics of My SEI built Crazy Horse rifles.

1st is my Full SEI Crazy Horse, built on a LRB receiver, includes the full package (M80HT/ Cryo etc. I have gotten a 5/8" 100 yd group with it 168gr FGMM,:

Now in a Troy MCS:

2nd is my Crazy Horse light built by SEI on another LRB receiver with a 18" SEI C.H.  barrel turned down to standard weight & M80HT. Shoots like a house on fire, 1moa with LC M80

3rd is a Heal Stamped Poly Conversion I had SEI build for my brother, includes 18" USGI barrel (had been cut down by Ron) & TRW bolt. Gas Cylinder & op rod  & trigger housing are Poly (USGI hammer, trigger & springs). rest is USGI & SEI.

I've got a standard Poly Tech. Ron Smith did a bolt conversion about 10 years ago. Back then, he charged $250.00. IIRC, that included the new TRW bolt.

Congratulations!

Consider replacing the ChiCom gas cylinder with one of SEI's new M80HT cylinders and hard chrome pistons.
The cylinder is on sale!

I was thinking of calling Ron today!

And I forgot to mention above that I am using the Chinese trigger group and op rod.

Thanks!

Excellent!

These M21A5/C-IED style rifles were built by Ron Smith on heel stamped Poly Tech receivers.
The trigger groups and op rods are Chinese and the balance of the parts are USGI or SEI.
The barrels are 4 groove standard profile match grade tubes with 1:10 ROT and M118LR chambers.

Ron was out but Jim went and grabbed my work order and added the M80HT cylinder, piston and plug.

He said 'good timing' as he should start my build tomorrow or Friday.

Here are my two Smith built rifles:

Far left is late run Smith cast receiver w/all TRW parts. Next is Smith built and marked Poly with H&R barrel, bolt, op rod and SAK NM barrel.

I'm looking forward to getting home from Iraq and getting re aquainted with my M14 collection.

Awesome sticks, I wish Ron still marked ChiCom M14 receivers

Both of these MK14 SEI rifles, Mod 0 & 1 are built on heel stamped Norinco receivers.
The upside down Mod 0 is a full blown Crazy Horse EBR.

Awesome rifles guys. Thanks for sharing them with me.
I have the feeling that the next week or two are going to be long ones.....

Hopefully, I'll get off work early enough tomorrow to run by the range and get some trigger time on AQTs. I need to warm up for a crazy horse!

WOW! That was quick.

Jim called and said my rifle was ready. I paid the good man and he said it should ship out today.

Picked her up this morning. Here are a few photos I took right after opening the box/case at the jobsite today. After checking her out I went to call a customer by hitting the "talk" button on my cell phone and right at the moment I was hitting the button my M1A loving buddy (who talked me into sending this Polytech to Smith) called. He said "Hey man, have you looked at her yet?" I said "yea, I just did". He replied "I thought I felt a disturbance in the force, like someone turning on a lightsaber somewhere."
