I need to make a quantity of dummy rounds, in both pistol and rifle caliber. I have 9mm and 38 cal brass as thats what I shoot as well as 308. Ill have to buy the bullets. WHat is the most basic set up I need to make these dummy rounds? I do not need the primers removed or replaced. I guess I would need to resize the case and seat the bullet. I know very little about reloading.

Speaking of "dummy rounds."   My suggestions are...........

Drill a hole or holes into the side of the cases.

Color the brass for additional visual reference.

As for the primer pocket.........I'd put a dab of silicone in the empty primer pocket.

Reload (w/o powder or primer) as usual.

Aloha, Mark

PS.........buying all of the equipment to make a few.  Forgetabout it.  IMHO......buy your dummies.  Or, ask a "friend" to make some for you.

IF, you plan on getting into the hobby of reloading...........start your reading here..........

If you don't have to make too many buy a couple of Classic Lee Loaders.

Cabelas site sells 'em for 22 bucks.

Thanks...Thats exactly what I need....I only need to make a few dozen right now, but it may turn into a much larger project...

Depending on the amount you need You can probably find someone to do it for trade or even free if you provide the components.

What kind of bullets does one use for dummy rounds?

Ill probably go with copper coated as these will be handled quite a bit. Do they make them with other coatings?

Copper clad, like Berrys, will dent/deform easily. If you are making keychains, FMJ's are alot more durable.

For dummy rounds I'd load then with FMJ and put a good crimp on the cannelure. Dummy rounds will probably be handled quite a bit and cycled thru guns a lot. I have had dummies loosen up over time even with a good crimp if you cycle them thru the gun a lot.

For what your doing it might be more practical to buy ammo pull the boolits dump the powder fire the primer and reseat the boolit.

Equip required:  lee hand press seating die for each size needed.

Fertilize yard with powder, or dispose of it in creative spectacular way
