I have a Mauser action I plan to convert and use as a bolt action .45
I was going to cut it to 16.1 and use a thread on can. I was hoping someone could educate me on integrals. Could I chop the barrel to 8" and get a 1.5" tube welded on the end and then get one of the talented guys here to make some cones and a threaded end cap? Am I missing anything major? |
Like this?
Bbl was about 8" w/ 2 vents into over-bbl chamber. 2 cones & 8 K's in a 1-3/8" tube. From breech to end cap = 17-1/8" Video here Will be rechambered to 45WinMag, shortly. |
| I've never built one, but if I was going to build an integral, this is what I would do: Shorten the barrel to whatever length you want it at. Turn the outside to accept the end cap as close to the chamber as you are comfortable. Turn a step near the muzzle to accept an 2nd support point. Vent the 2nd support point to use the space over the barrel as a reflex chamber. Then weld the endcap and support to the barrel, and the outer tube to the endcap and support. Pack it full of baffles. You could thread the muzzle end of the tube for a threaded end cap or just weld it shut and have a sealed can. Basicly think 2 trunions supporting the tube, and weld whatever is required to get the length needed. I have no idea if welding on the barrel that much would effect accuracy. That and maintaining tube straightness would be my 2 main concerns. |

A buddy and I have been considering a build exactly like this. Keeping it a 1 stamp deal of course. I think I see what is going on now... Collar has a hole for plug weld? |
