I recently purchased several cases of the 750 round English made head stamp RORG. Lastnight we went shooting RR with the 10.5" upper and a H buffer in the tube. The gun had just been to a shoot recently were it probably had 1k or so run through the barrel with not even a single hick up! I had cleaned the gun extensivly since then. The first mag started hanging up this went on for about 5 mags or so. I attributed it to being "too clean" I thought we would run a few mags and it would clear up. No such luck! I got frustrated and dumped a whole lot of gun oil in desperation to fix the situation because we had a new person with us, who hadn't shot MG's before and I wanted it to be a good experience. This did not even fix it. After thinking and shooting the MAC I came back to the RR and thought to my self maybe it was a feeding issue so I grasped the mag and pushed it foward. This seemingly helped. I thought mayb the mags had gotten torn up, nope you could try and repeat that and that didn't have the same results! So this morning I took out 2 other buffers and some 55 gr. projos some Surplus and some Home brew. All I did was change the buffer to a H2 and the RR started running with RORG. So I tried it with some 55 no problem. So I put the CAR buffer in no problem there just a whole lot faster! So I tried all 3 buffers with just the 2 different types of 55 no problem with any of the 3. By this time I was thinking something had to have happened inside the gun, but just to be sure I tried to run another mag of RORG with the H buffer. Here we went again the same problem I had last night! So what I discovered was and seemed odd to me was that ammo will not run in a 10.5" upper with a H buffer. Now I know it will run with a 14.5" upper becasue we shot it on that RR the other evening before we put the 10.5" back on. Any reason why that ammo won't run? |
| Glad to hear I'm not the only one experiencing problems! I was thinking after I tested everything and got it to run: "Iwonder what the OL is on that ammo. I know just from looking the bullets appear to be seated a little further out then any thing else I have. When I get home I think I will measure and see! |

Recently on one the of the military websites, I wish I could remember which one, I read a memorandum from the US Army Material and Ordnance Command informing US military personnel in Iraq that if they come upon this British RORG ammunition to use it only in Rifles (20-inch barrel length) and SAWS and NOT TO USE IT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES IN M4 CARBINES. This memo when on to explain that this ammunition was designed by the British for their SA-80s and hence the pressures were not comparable for use in the 14.5-inch barrels and gas-systems of the M4s; and use of this British RORG ammunition on M4s will cause malfunctions, etc. I did buy 60-rounds of this RORG ammunition from a friend of mine to test in one of my 14.5-inch M4 carbines; I did experience about 10 stoppages due to the use of this ammunition. I switched back to my standard issue Federal ammunition and everything was fine, so the Army Warning Notice about the RORG ammunition is accurate. I have nothing but 14.5-inch carbines so I have not purchased any of this British ammo for my use. |
