| as a bolt gun that takes FAL magazines? |
|
Quoted: Sarco in NJ had several FN30-11 rifles for sale at one point in time.Quoted: FN30 To be more specific, the FN30-11. Now... how about something that's not made from unobtanium? It's been a couple years since I was in their showroom though. Other than that, I'm not aware of any bolt guns that take FAL mags, but there's always the potential to convert something... Here buy this one.... http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=138377979 |

It had better gut, skin, and quarter the deer while it delivers it to my pickup. Now these conversions you speak of, is there somebody who has done this before, or offers it as a 'kit'? Or would I be breaking new ground here? |

Or would I be breaking new ground here? I've never seen one done with a FAL mag, but I have seen K98's and M1903's with extended magazines (trench/air service respectively). I'd imagine a 'smith with a bit of ingenuity and skill could work something up. I guess the main reason is "why?" What can you do with a 20 rd capacity bolt gun that can't be accomplished with a 5 or 10 round capacity? It's a bolt gun, and truth be told, they don't fire all that fast, and reloads aren't that obtrusive in a bolt gun. Plus a 20 rd FAL mag under the action would make prone and bench shooting a bit more awkward. Is there a specific reason for wanting FAL mags to work in a rifle? |

For starters, I prefer rifles that have detachable magazines, just for ease of loading and unloading. Given that, I suppose that it's just interchangeability, plain and simple. I've already got some FAL magazines around, and I think that it would be nice to be able to use them in whatever rifle I have in that caliber. The "hi-cap" magazines are nice for range time, and wouldn't be more awkward than running an M1A in the same situations. Do I need it? No, I don't. But I'm starting to look into adding a bolt gun to the stable, and, if possible, am hoping to be able to fit it in under the above desires. |
