Hey guys, just thought I would see if any of you have any experience with this.

Today I picked up a new AAC Cyclone from my SOT.   Brought it home all excited and went to attach it to my AAC 300 BLK barrel only to have it not want to thread on. It starts, but almost immediately I feel resistance so I stop to prevent cross threading it. I have a 5/8x24 Noveske 7.62 KX3 that threads onto my gun no problem. I also have a 1/2x28 to 5/8x24 thread adapter I bought for use on my 5.56 bolt gun and I experience the same issue when trying to attach the cyclone to it.

The KX3 also threads nicely to the thread adapter.

I have reached out to my SOT who said he would email AAC and see what can be done. Luckily they are only a couple of hours from here so if I have to take it to them I can without the hassle of mailing.   Just thought I would see if any of you have experienced something like this while I wait to hear back from the SOT.

Silly question but he didn't sell you a M18X1 thread pitch did he?

That might be a silly question Derek but it still just about gave me a heart attack. The box say 5/8-24 .  The can isn't marked, does AAC mark them differently?

My friend has a Cyclone and we had the same problem but with an AAC 300 blk. 16" factory upper!

The 51T brake and a Surefire brake would thread onto the barrel without issue, but the Cyclone would only go half way.  I never contacted AAC about it because that upper was going to use the SF brake and has since been sold (not a fan of the URX2).

My friend's Cyclone threads on fine on 5 other hosts.

My guess was the thread job was a little out of spec and possibly that AAC cans run tight compared to muzzle adapters. You may need a gunsmith to redo the barrel's threads.

Update

Cade from AAC contacted me the night I posted this thread and told me he would send me an RMA the next morning. The next morning when I woke up it was waiting for me in my email box.

Today I was planning on shipping the can but found I was going to be near AAC so I figured I would just drop it off to save on shipping time. When I dropped it off they told me to wait and they would go get Cade.

Cade came out looked at the can and told me my timing was perfect and to wait 5 minutes. 5 minutes later he came back and told me the threads were slightly out of spec and he was going to redo them and to wait another 15 minutes. 10 minutes later he was back and the can had newly cut threads. Cade used a go no go to show me the threads were now good, gave me some stickers and patches and thanked me for coming by.

Great service AAC!

Glad it worked out for you.

I wonder if that is the same problem with my buddies can.

He said that when the welded the can the heat possibly slightly warped the threads. I probably could have forced the can onto the gun and corrected the problem since they were only slightly out of spec. That said, there was no way I was going to force anything.
